The Power of Inner Sovereignty

What even is that, Sovereignty, beyond the buzzing of a word on social media ?

The Power of Sovereignty. Sovereignty, according to the dictionary, the quality of having supreme power or authority. Power, derived from the Latin, to be able.

What is it then to put these two words together and in an internal state.

A supreme capability. To know who I am, what I value, what defines me; to own where my Yes lives and where my No resides. Deep inside. The accessing of true consent. Of choosing not to say yes when I’m not a yes. Of being able to decline with every bit as much agency, ownership and grace as I lead with when I am honest with my yes. Ownership + Authorship = Agency. Inner Sovereignty. Living from the inside out. Honestly. Versus trying to grasp, to figure it all out based on what’s happening outside my skin.

I’ve spent much time, exploring what this might mean for myself and for clients. A simple equation perhaps to help make sense: Who I am is connected to What I value.. Who I am, steeped in having located and defined my values, values as stars not only to guide me, the stars I actually am. Values that anchor me and steady me, help me navigate terrains. Values that I am so familiar with that boundaries cease to be necessity. The need to put up walls and keep people out no longer exists. A simple yes that’s right, or a no thank you, will do. Living my values, I can actually and fully be myself. I can share my known self with other people. I can relate clean and clear. Without Doubt, without Remorse, without Angst. Without lying. Non-negotiable. Unapologetic. Grace refined.

When I know and live my values, I create foundation and a scaffold I will call Integrity. So when I’m challenged, tense, resistant, confused, I can look at my values to find what’s being pushed or pulled or where I myself have unconsciously traded a value for something less mine. Even here lies agency. I am no longer at someone else’s mercy, I am at my own. No more self compromise, no more self betrayal.

Because honestly, when I am owner, author and agent, no one can compromise me or betray me without my consent.
